An article about the discovery of two portraits that were previously thought to be lost to the flames when the 'Gebouw voor Kunst en Wetenschappen' in The Hague burned down in December 1964. The portraits depict the celebrated conductor and composer Arnold Spoel en the singer Louis van Tulder.

In 1843, the Dutch artist Willem Frederik Veldhuijzen (1814-1873) painted a family portrait which I acquired from his descendants. The article tells the tragic story behind this painting, which includes a self-portrait of the artist.
